Namib - June 2002
The dunes in the Namib are a special place and you can only enter these areas with an organised tour. We went with Radio Sonder Grense.
To drive in the dunes is a very special experience - here we had to let the tyre pressures drop to under a bar as our Hi-Lux was a normally aspirated diesel and it was impossible to really accelerate fast to make the steep ascents. When you drive down some of the slip faces there is a roaring sound made by the dry sand. It is very difficult to capture the steep climbs and falls on film and you really have to experience this yourself to appreciate it. The pictures bring back vivid memories for us and I am glad that we made the effort to captures some of the moments.
The negative for me is the sea - as I have an absolute aversion to salt water coming near the vehicle.
We visited Sossusvlei after the group dune drive.
On the way back we visited Ais Ais where I took of the waters.
